Steve Brown, Director

Steve Brown grew up in the Scottish Borders before moving to Stirling then Glasgow. He has a long association with Dumfries & Galloway, originally as child regularly visiting family who worked for The Forestry Commission. For the past 17 years he has split his time between Glasgow and near Kirkcudbright.

He has worked with charities and community & voluntary sector projects for 30 years. As a consultant, facilitator and trainer, his role is frequently that of ‘critical friend.’ He helps people see things differently and then supports them to take action.

As well as supporting boards to strengthen their governance and strategic planning, Steve has himself been Chair of theatre company Tricky Hat Productions and Toonspeak Young People’s Theatre as well as being a board member of DanceHouse and Wee Stories.

As Vice Chair of Langside Halls Trust, Steve led on negotiations with Glasgow City Council and Glasgow Life to complete an asset transfer. The vision for the Halls is as a community space for hire plus an ongoing, community-focused programme of cultural and social activities to enrich, entertain and attract the wider local community.

He is passionate about equalities and meaningful community engagement - giving people a voice and influence. His previous experience includes being a member of BBC Scotland’s Equal Opportunities Committee and part of the team which developed The National Standards for Community Engagement.
